Portland in particolare ma l'Oregon tutto in generale è il Beervana, o Brewvana o quel che volete, ma il concetto resta chiaro: lo stato dei castori è pure quello delle birre artigianali.

Nel nostro piccolo, aiutati da un ospite che quando gli dici "Mi piacerebbe provare un po' di birre locali" prende la cosa molto sul serio, salvo poi mostrare una resistenza e un fegato allenato molto più del nostro, ci siamo dati da fare almeno nelle serate trascorse a Portland, per poi mollare il colpo scendendo verso la California, anche se abbiamo tentato il più possibile se non di restare in media, almeno di non diventare improvvisamente astemi.
A quanto pare il formato inferiore alla pinta è cosa sconosciuta in Oregon, e i baristi e i camerieri fanno magicamente comparire nuovi bicchieri pieni a sostituire quelli vuoti, il che, aggiunto a prezzi che definirei concorrenziali rispetto ai nostri qui, ha contribuito a far nascere nei nostri cuori una genuina ammirazione per i produttori locali. Che non si tirano indietro davanti alle sperimentazioni: abbiamo bevuto birre con retrogusto di lime, mandarino, albicocca, fragola, zenzero, peperoncino, zucca dolce, varie ed eventuali.
